From Brands to Oulton Park in consecutive weekends - what a change of venue and luck... but that's racing! Not long after arrival at Oulton Park the dreaded gremlins played havoc with the T3R bike that limited both track time and set up. The engine terminally lost all power in the middle of the qualifying session so the team suddenly had their hands full... in the end having to request special permission to use the other engine in the Stock bike - as T3R didn't have a spare sealed engine with them. So when T3R agreed, not only did the team have to exchange the engines but also then go through the whole "T3R process" of sealing the engine by going on the dyno with the second engine - and then getting it sealed by T3R staff. Meantime no more time on track and no more laps in the 600 Superstock class.
The weather stayed fine but with a constant cold wind spreading dust everywhere. And try as he did, Diablo 666 HM Racing's Piers Hutchins produced some gutsy laps but was never very comfortable or confident on the bike with so little track time. He still managed to produce some respectable lap times of 1.46.5, but the harder he tried the more he ran wide so finished 11th and 13th in the two races. Trying too hard on such a physical track also brought on the dreaded armpump and this finally put paid to any really good race results for Piers. But hey its a long championship and now we have two weeks to get another engine and be ready for the next round with everybody tuned up to get back to the front!!
Next up - the long run up to Scotch Corner at Croft (13 May)!!
