Round 6 — Oschersleben, Germany
Having started the race sixth on the grid the London-based team
had moved up to fifth slot in the field, only to suffer gearbox problems
in the last 10 minutes of the race.
Boosted by a strong performance and sixth position in their class two
weeks ago in hot and humid conditions in the Suzuki 8 Hours in Japan,
the Diablo 666 camp was hugely disappointed not to maintain its fifth
position and to finish a slot back in sixth.
The three riders, England’s James Hutchins, Marko Rohtlaan of Estonia
and Australian Alex Cudlin, were particularly frustrated as they had been
looking to recreate the success of last year’s performance when
the team secured a third place podium finish.
"Naturally we are a bit disappointed as we were really looking for
another podium finish this week and to encounter gearbox problems in the
dying minutes of such a long and grueling race, was gutting,” commented
Diablo Team Principal Miles Hutchins.
Diablo 666 now look foward to the final race of the 2006 World Endurance
Championship, the Bol D’Or 24 Hours in Magny Cours in France. This
race, which takes place on over the weekend of September 16 & 17,
will finalise the final World Endurance ranking for 2006.
